WHAT IS A WORKERS’ COMP CLAIM?
Workers’ compensation is a type of insurance that replaces wages and provides medical benefits to employees who are injured while engaged in activities pursuant to their employment.
WHAT TYPES OF WORKERS’ COMPENSATION FRAUD ARE THERE?
There are several ways in which people may try to defraud an insurance company. Here are a few examples. Some may have been injured elsewhere, but try to claim that the injury happened at work. Some may have been, in fact, injured on the job, but they try to work the system to obtain more benefits than they should. Others may falsely claim they can’t or aren’t working, but are simultaneously working at another job to collect salary in addition to their benefits. Still other may make an entirely false claim, having sustained no injury at all.
HOW DO STRUCTURED SETTLEMENTS WORK?
Suppose a person is injured in a car accident, and they are awarded a settlement of $100,000 to be paid out incrementally over a 15-year period. However, they don’t want to wait that long to receive the full amount. They’d prefer a lump sum of cash now, even if it’s less total money. Maybe agree to $20,000 to have cash in hand.
WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN STATE AND FEDERAL TRADEMARK APPLICATIONS?
State trademark applications tend to be relatively inexpensive and easy to navigate; Federal trademark applications cost more and are much more complex and for good reason. They offer greater protection to intellectual property than at the state level.
WHICH TYPE OF TRADEMARK DO YOU HELP WITH?
We can help with both. Most clients hire us to help apply for Federal trademarks.
